Compulsory Basic Training Course (CBT)

Dave Barkshire Motorcycle Training is pleased to offer this excellent training course at a cost of just £95 including full instruction and equipment hire. We also offer a generous discount on all items of equipment purchased from our well-stocked shop when taking the course.

In 1990, the Government introduced the CBT, designed at reducing the number of road traffic incidents involving novice moped and motorcycle riders. The CBT prepares and equips you with basic skills and knowledge that you need in order to be competent on today’s roads. However, it is not an exam or test, but a training course consisting of a number of theoretical and practical elements including a two-hour, instructor-supervised road ride.

Our purpose-built training facility features an off-road course and test area that has been specially created to include road markings, roundabouts and some major and minor road junctions, providing the ideal environment to complete the necessary training for this course. You’re given the perfect opportunity to develop a good understanding of road situations, whilst learning in a safe, well-supervised environment.

Completion of this course allows riders aged 16 to ride a 50cc moped or scooter and riders of 17 or above to ride a motorcycle of scooter of up to 125cc, however you will still not be allowed to take passengers or ride on motorways and 'L' plates must still be displayed.
